Injuries, pains, and cardio..

Been switching a lot of my work outs around lately. Like everything things do get stale and you need to renew certain things..as well as fix things when injuries occur. Seems my c5/c6 and shoulder issues have returned, so working on strengthening and bulking at this point though.

Not a terrible thing, but just focus on continuing and not allowing for something like an injury or boredom to stop you.

On a side note. For someone that truly doesn't like cardio; since I have adopted a new dog about a month ago, I really enjoy running on the beach with him. Adds to my enjoyment of the day. #cheaptherapy#doggy gets exercised and life is good :)

Month into Crossfit

Status Update: Month later starting Crossfit. Although I been warned I would loose my gains by fellow bodybuilders, thanks a lot guys. Obviously these people have no idea what they are talking about. Crossfit develops and works on muscles a little differently. Although I was sorta sore as hell after lifting weights, Crossfit, took my soreness to a new level to defcon 5 and literally made me want to drop to the mats once the workout was completed as I was dripping with sweat from every inch of my body. Which, my intensity and my body was not getting anywhere near just lifting weights.

For one the intensity is something I really love and hate. The mix of high intensity cardio, and weights has brought much more excitement to my workouts, not to mention having a team full of people rooting you on, telling you not to fail. I'm starting to seeing different muscles form, although I'm eating a little more then I was, I'm glad I added more carbs in the mix or I would simply not be able to complete each workouts. There are times though I feel I won't complete them, but I reach in to that dark place and push harder. The music is always blasting, everyone is always cheering everyone on and yelling to just DO IT! So I do. Its a high intensity workout, you lift in your routine, use body weight and work on different skills each time so it never gets old.

This whole experience has showed me I was getting way too relaxed in my regular training and probably should of done something like this sooner. Excited to continue this new challenge and kick it even further. Each time I get stronger, try a new skill and work to a new level. Its quite exciting. And new fellow lifting friends is fun, especially when you feel you will fail, they are there to make sure you don't and complete every task.

I can see why some feel Crossfit is a cult. People tend to stick together in Crossfit. We discuss food all the time, daily intake, stretching, and every aspect of what it is to be able to be a Crossfit athlete. Not bad. I already was a health food nut, and exercise crazy person, so truly I'm in my element to see what others do in comparison.

Loosing Gains, food...

It was clear that many of my workouts were tearing me down. I been working long hours at work, been dealing with a sick horse and assisting a friend move. While trying to move myself.

Although I do love a challenge, there are times that I felt like giving up. I decided to make most of my bodybuildling workouts shorter and stick to circuits. Make it more interesting at least until my body had time to heal and get used to the two impending workouts I keep throwing at it. What people don't understand is you spend all this time building and if you don't keep at it with workouts and eating a proper balanced diet you cannot keep those gains.

I probably should of thought about this better and planned it like I normally would have. But life happens, I forgot to keep up eating like I was and my intensity as well as my energy levels have decreased. I'm used to eating 6 times a day. To many people that might seem like a lot, but in reality its not. They are small lunch portions, not talking the typical American sized uber portions on a dinner plate.

While moving friends, and dealing with other issues with my horse, I didn't have time to prep better and pretty much just ate what I had or whatever we could pick up. Talk about a Failure to prep. I'm human. I know better and I will work better to fix the situation. Since I know I have lost some muscle in the process. Not only loosing gains, which seems sacrilege in itself, my energy has decreased and my sleeping patterns have suffered.

Constructing more of a concrete plan in order to succeed and be able to fully do crossfit and my regular workouts. Of course its going to suck, of course its going to be hard and OF COURSE this will hurt. I want it to hurt, and feel sore. But in reality if I am not feeding my body properly I am not doing myself or anyone around me any service.

Intake not only has a lot fuel for body, but without the proper fuel, timing, before/after workouts, your mood, emotions can be heavily affected. So in reality, if your hungry eat. Plan it. If you have to schedule it do it. Carry a cooler. Make lots of left overs and brings your meals everywhere. Looks like Tupperware container hell is in my future.

Until next time, eat up, look up new recipes and keep downing the protein! Don't loose them gains!

Crossfit Kicks my A$$

I been getting bored with bodybuildling. I love the feeling and working on my body, but the fact of the matter I am bored. I'm stuck at a certain zone and although I have gotten my body further then I have ever gotten it in the last 24 months-- I really need to get out of this funky zone and try new things. I had a great friend help me out, which I always like to pay forward to others since I have great passion for it.

Well-- new things are scary. They can hurt, probably end up needing ice and better knee supports in the long run. But hey--no one says these things are going to be easy right.

Decided to check out a local Crossfit place though, I heard they were the best and the toughest in the area so why not, can't be that bad right? The coach first of all invited me to watch the class.

How did I feel my first steps in? Intimidated. Only way I could describe it. Their warm up alone would kill MOST mortal beings, let along continuing through the actually WOD (workout of the day..) O yea-- did I tell you need to run.. Yes, my favorite thing in the world. But regardless of my thought process, the 15 people in the class looked pretty badass, many of the things I knew obviously, just different techniques.

Everyone was actually pretty welcoming and I was invited in to join. The WOD they had me do after the intense warm up was "Helen".
Helen
21X17X9 3X's
Run 400 meters
Kettlebell swings
Pull-ups

Although it may seem short, o yea thats it? Well think again. After the first time around after you're almost completed the 400 meter run you start to think.."O Dam, I have to do this again..." You reach into your mind and pull out more strength then you thought you had, telling your body to shut up that you can do it. Its all a mind game. No reason for me not to be able to finish.

When all said and done, I didn't die. I didn't fall over. Was it hard? YES, it was. Will I do it again? Hell ya! Signing up for a new gym to push my body to the next level. Who knows what I am capable of. Apparently I have only scratched the surface and with hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears a newer stronger, improved, self always comes out on the other side. I'm actually really excited to see my results in 12 weeks, as well as trying out some competitions.

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Intimidation. Use it. Bring it. Wear it well.

I often go to the gym, and not realize that I get such in a zone. I can pretty much zone out every person there. You look right into the mirror, don't care about your beastly groans while lifting and your heavy breathing. You stare deep into the mirror watching every rep, every breathe and every exhale.

I been told I look intimidating. I suppose this could be the case. Strong build, I walk around the gym with my head held high and at times I can get caught up in what I am doing with such passion. I take great pride into myself and my body. And if anything, you should right? Although I do help people out while they work out often, people tend to still find anyone who is confident, proud and holding their head high can be pretty intimidating.

It can be used in so many ways, so many vehicles. Whether its a way to completely shut down from the world and put up a wall, or show the world you know what-- I don't give a flying F#$K, what anyone else thinks, about me, since I know I freakin' Rock. And why not right have that confidence.

So Rock it. Keep that head high. And F#$k any critics. They are weak, scared and could never come close to what you can accomplish.

Review on Watched Bigger Stronger Faster: Steroid Use.

Watched Bigger Stronger Faster-- anyone whom has Netflix worthwhile to watch.

Lays it all out. What's the deal with enhancing drugs?

The truth is there are a lot of products on the market. Nothing is as black and white. Think your 100% against "roids", well guess what hotshot-- have you ever taken testosterone, birth control, cortisone pill/or- creams..are just a few.

There are so many ways to make your life better by taking steroids, especially if you're sick, out of surgery, etc. Everyone is dirty, what can I say. Unless you stopped all prescribed drugs there is some sort of steroid that have touched your body at some point.

Personally, whatever floats your boat. There are so many other things out there on the market I feel we should gauge our war on towards. This doesn't hurt anyone.

Getting off my soap box. Over and out.

ARMS! I pick stuff up and put them down :)

In hopes to build my biceps, triceps and the rest of my arms, I added in an extra day for arms. I feel like its been helping and people are taking notice of these deadly guns. ;)

Arms :) Shoulders, biceps and triceps :)

4 sets til fail

Cable bicep curls with t bar
Dumbbell bicep curls
Close grip bicep curls with rope
Shoulder press with smith machine in front
shoulder press with smith machine in back
Tricep overhead with rope on cable
Tricep t bar skull crushers on cable
Single arm triceps crushers on rope

I try to do a lot of singling out of each side obviously. Remember one side is not the same as the other and many times when you use 1 bar one side is obviously trying to make up for the other...So-- by singling out each side you make that weaker side stronger.

Dumbbells and cables work wonders

Be your own competition and lay off the jealousy.

Everyone has their own starting points.Though it can be quick to judge certain weights, etc etc. I always seen it as I was my own competition. Its safe to say though we all look at others, wish or hope they had x y z. Whether its something materialistic (which in my opinion I can go work for and get at any point..) or something you have to build for. Regardless, whatever it takes you have to go out and work for it. Recall- there are no easy quick fixes,no welfare lines. No one is going to give you these sexy muscles, and same goes for stuff or even money. All comes down, how hard do you want to work for something.

I'm not perfect by any means and I am not strong or even defined as much as I like. But knowing that, working towards that and being happy with that makes all the difference. Being happy with yourself is a huge starting point, which I feel most do not have. Lots of unhappy people that are out and about, that truly need to stop and smell the roses to realize what life is really about. Until then, its one big blob to them. Jealousy, crazy antics and pretty much acting like a bitchy selfish child. It is what it is. I know what I am. I know what I have worked for and have accomplished. I am pretty proud. No one can take that away from me.

At the end of the day, I look to beat my own goals, my own strengths, build on my own self. What others have is awesome and great, but in reality working on myself helps the world around me. I tend to want to work for a better self, better center and pretty much by doing this makes a positive world around me. Ever realize why these miserable people are surrounded by misery?

Since life is just far too short to deal with jealousy, childish games, living above the hate like I wrote in last post, living to my own standards that are in my own head and constantly WORKING, building, and growing myself. Its a happy time. Happy life. And I am not afraid to say I am feeling wonderful about the person I am. I am a hardworking chica, with 4 college degrees, working for a global corporation, respected valued individual, in work, friends, family, at the gym and around the barn. Show the love, share it and work hard. But give up the jealousy it truly doesn't lead anyone to the path of happiness. Find your own competition. Jot down your goals and work for them. Be proud of your accomplishments.

Chin up. Although it might be rainy today, its one day to a few other goals I have. Stay tuned :)

Live and Let live. Let go.

Motivation at times can seem like something that I am truly lacking especially with working long hours, barn stuff, and everything else that is going on in life. Things come up, life changes, people change and your environment changes. Need to be ready for these things. Nothing is ever made to stay at the same state. With that you just need to let go. Learn to let go. I am not one of those people that can do this, since I like to have a full plan in life. You know--those people that have the monthly, 6 months, yearly, 5 year, etc etc goals. Yup--thats me. Really though I been trying to release much of this and really learn how to relax more.

Enjoy life. Take in my friends, family and my animals, which I am truly blessed to have. Nothing is a given right, its a full privilege that I work for daily. As anything can be taken away from you at anytime, cherish, don't stress about the small stuff, work hard, play hard and love hard. I'm not perfect by any means, but whom is. I'm a constant work in progress. But for the things that truly matter in life, people.

Regardless there will always be those rude and ignorant people and they're the people that don't have true friends. What truly counts is the relationships day to day you have with people, your mom, gram, dog, lover, whatever, you get the point. Whatever makes you truly happy, apart from stupid materialistic crap which you could just buy more of which will be thrown away most likely later on.

Life is good. Keep your chin up. Let the small crap just roll off your back. I like to say that people grow out of the high school stage of the crazy gossip and mindless mickering, but truly it can get worse with the bullying. (And yes-- bullying is a form of harassment- and can be charged in a court of law.) Live above the hate. Words are words though. Learning to let go of the hate though, keeps me at peace. I get a lot of interesting feedback from all different avenues through the course of my day some good, some bad--you take what you can get though and roll with the punches.

Long hours + Circuits

I been working crazy hours lately, some days getting back to the hotel 10pm, these long hours don't leave a lot of time to work out.... But really--if you have time to watch tv, message on facebook, any of that BS--you have time for a workout whether at a gym or even your hotel room. I put together some exercises on opposite days of Clutch to keep things interesting. This is what I did:

Inline Dumbbells presses
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Bench Dumbbell presses
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell curls
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell triceps kickbacks
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell overhead triceps extensions
Plie Squats with dumbbells
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Body weight squats
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Standing lunges (25 on each side)
High knees (30 seconds) Pushups (25)

Core 4 sets of 45 No rest!

Scissors
Bicycle crunches
Crunches

No excuses people. Eat clean, get in your short work out and pass out for the day. :) Helps with stress levels and zen. Keeps me in my happy place.

Back to Clutch 21

Figuring need to change it up--Clutch 21. Great program, quick, fast paced and gets the blood pumping. I had some great results from this last summer. Heres the skinny and the workout in detail:

Clutch 21

On the weekends I will be adding her 25 minute circuit in as well--the good thing about this one is you don't need to hit the gym to get this done! Perfect. Home Circuit

Sigh..cutting phase. OR I hate Cardio Phase.

So you work out daily, you bulk up -- Gain lots of muscle. You do cardio but its not like its consistent or anything. I know there are some weeks I just skip it all together and just lift daily to some extent. Spring time is here-- summer is approaching and you want to shred down and CUT. Yup, you have to do more cardio and tweak your routine yet again to shock the system. You start running around, with chicken in baggies, yogurt in a cooler and extra careful about certain extras.

Heres the deal, I hate to run. Nope--I really hate it. I have no joy in it so for me anyway few and far times I will probably do it. The best way around this is to substitute in some HITS cardio and some mini circuits with fast pace body weight exercises. Do things you enjoy to do. Hike, bike, ride my horse, lunges on the beach, etc. I been searching for new workouts to add to my routines to help me finally shred down and cut where I'd like to be. I am going to mix it up between Clutch 21 and a few of Ashleys Conrad's other circuit programs, for a few weeks anyway. I been lifting quite heavily for at least 6 months--really no deviation in my plan too much. This will help kick my body into gear where it needs to and shock my system.

Regardless it's good to try new things, break from old routines for mind, body and soul. Its finally light out passed 5pm after work and its above 20 degrees--so that in itself brings some positive points and opens up for new doors for my workouts to be moved outdoors. Spending more time with my horses- Rira and Bella, sure like that and the extra carrots, Rira not so much since he gets worked much more...but seems we all get double duty and ready to shred.

Try new things, shock the system and get out there. Keep moving my friends!

On the road again...

Well, they have me on the road again for work. Its not always 100% great hours as one would like, but you do what you gotta do to get in a workout. So, with that said you do what you HAVE to workout. The gyms in the area closed fairly early, but thankfully the hotel I'm staying at has a fairly decent hotel gym with a few cardio options, good selection of dumbbells, kettle-bells and foam rollers.

What does a girl do though that doesn't want to ruin her gains?! Well, do what she does best. Lift shit, and put them down. Yes I know so anti-Planet Fitness, but that is how I roll you see. Fast paced circuit training, mix with cardio sessions and weights. Here is what I did the last two days, probably switch it up tomorrow.

4 sets of 20 - 30 second Rest

LETS DO THIS!

Inline Dumbbells presses
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Bench Dumbbell presses
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell curls
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell triceps kickbacks
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Dumbbell overhead triceps extensions
Plie Squats with dumbbells
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Body weight squats
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)
Standing lunges (25 on each side)
High knees (30 seconds)
Pushups (25)

Core 4 sets of 45 No rest!

Scissors
Bicycle crunches
Crunches

Stay active. No matter what your doing. I take the stairs when working. Take the longer way around and just find ways to get off my ass. Yup, that's pretty much it. And--staying at a hotel that has a kitchen is a lifesaver. I carry around a thermal bag with snacks so I don't get tempted.

#power on Leg workouts-->overtrain 'em

Legs.Who needs to walk anyway? I work in IT..no legs needed.

I been training pretty much everyday now to increase strength and YES over train. I want me some big, sexy legs with a nice butt. And you need to work for it if you want it..So heres the latest and greatest of Leg day part 1 I do for the beginning of the week.

4X til fail..
Back squats
reverse lunges
plie squats
deadlifts
glute pushdown
single leg dead lifts
walking lunges 25
leg extensions

And yes, thats right-- TIL you fail. You need to fail to grow, or else you didn't put enough work in. Lift heavy, feel it and crawl outta there. You want it, go get it, what else do you have better to do? Facebook, instagram, talking smack?! Talk is cheap, and summer bods are made in the winter. You know where I will be, the gym..overtraining.

New Year, New People, New Attitudes

We all had to start somewhere. With the New Year starting obviously you see some new faces, some people that are very genuine to actually make a change, as well as the cocky SOB's, which I often more then times like to throw my kettlebell at their heads. (You know whom you are--mr, shit for bricks who walks around rubbing their abs, and not stacking your dam weights back..but I digress..) When you hit the gym, you try to mix in and try to hide so no one notices that really you have no idea what your're doing. We have all been there though. No one knows everything and I know myself I am constantly learning from everyone.

Personally I do like to assist some of these new people, or even guide them with a suggestion or a direction of some sort. The lost in deer headlights look-- I recall very well. For beginners, figure out what is important to you. Doesn't have to be one size fits all what you need to do. But just stay active in whatever you feel fit. Obviously I went with the circuit and bodybuilding plans--that is what worked for me, with the combo of eating clean. Bodybuilding.com is a great resource. I will ever be gratful for a good friend that suggested Jamie Eason's Livefit program. If your looking for a great resource on how to start lifting, correctly and with proper phases, check it out. Best part its FREE. Yes free, and at least with this what you have to loose? IDK--that is pretty much what my friend had said before my 12 weeks transformation was up. I ended up with some amazing curves and built a great foundation.

Beginners, long time veterans, whatever, if you have a question ask. Walk up to that person you admire at the gym, ask what they are doing. Don't be afraid, I'm not. Most people will be more then willing to assist you, but most obviously will not approach.

As always what you have to loose? Smile, be friendly, ask questions and research what your doing. Knowledge is power my friends. Instead of criticizing someone new or something different--be open to new things. Go that extra mile, help someone, its more rewarding that way.

New year, new you and new attitude. It all starts somewhere.

Workout Plans: Aren't one size fits all.

I have done quite a few plans, some are harder on the body than others, the diet may seems crazy and parts of it you have to throw out. As always, check with your trained doctor before you go into any intense program. Generic workout plans are a great stepping stone or guide, to later make your own to what will work for your own needs. I would say for most part many of the ones off of bodybuildling.com at least, all come with a warning, See your doctor, adjust XYZ to your lifestyle and diet. Obviously not everyones needs are going to be the same. Some people needs more of whatever, mineral, vitamin or any particular food. Same goes for certain exercises, therefore with an injury for example with my back or my pelvis I will be cautious about certain exercises, either substitute something else for the, or build up slowly, then circle back.

Be aware about what is going on in your body. If you feel something is off, go with it and see a doctor. Don't be afraid to make adjustments to diet, or even the exercise plan. For me anyway I cannot live off of 1000-2000 calories. Realistically I need around 2500-3500 to function properly and still be able to perform, ride the horses, plus workout 6 days a week like I do.

Bottom line use your brain, listen to your body and if something is wrong seek help from someone. Take care of your body the best way you can, its the only one you will ever get.

Healthy lifestyle, fitness, what about sex?

As I have posted in my last post, there are quite a few items to keep up a healthy lifestyle. I talk a lot about staying healthy, keeping a healthy lifestyle, whatever that maybe-- whether exercising, eating clean and staying as active as I possible can. All and all--I share all my workouts, tips, tricks, menus and all that jazz. But lets face it, get down to the nitty gritty. Relationships and sex is a big one. Fitness can improve so many aspects of ones life, including sex. You don't think so? Think again, its pretty much a great workout of itself as it is, if you are having sex the right way.

There are a lot of things that can arise from sex, good and bad, obviously if its bad, its bad, and if its GREAT, its pretty awesome. One of the best feelings in life though, is being with the right person to share these healthy experiences and be on the same wave length. Whether its THE person, or the right person at the time, that can help you and share that physical connection, there is something to it. Not everyone has that, and many times it can be just that, just sex, but when you find that person, no matter how, or where, and ITS def more, than you have learned something than able to take something from it. That right person can be all the difference, whether its Eh, or the sex being completely godlike. Over the last year with my life changing over, new experiences, new relationship and new sex life with a wonderful man. This man has taught me a lot. We have shared quite a bit, in and out of the bedroom, and with that, have probably gone deeper than any previous partners. We focus on each other, no tv, walking dead or any of that crap.
br>Its only human. Sex is just sex if your sitting there and can be awful boring with the wrong person, but with the right passion, drive and actual want for that person, its a different thing all together. Sex is not suppose to be boring and its not suppose to be dull. Its pretty amazing what one person can do, and pretty much change a persons life completely in a different direction. Love is very altering in so many amazing ways. Love, sex, fitness, food, horses, rinse, and repeat.

Great life right? I think so. I hope to continue on this happy path.

Sure we chuckle or giggle about it at times, but hey--we all like sex and the more fit you are the better you can be at it. Fit Couple, great sex, happy life. So, on that note here's to a great 2014, of many more happy occasions. :)

Lessons learned

I talk a lot about different ways to keep a healthy lifestyle, but seems I have failed to mention a few things that are truly part of the package. Yes living a healthy lifestyle, exercising and eating well, are all important, but without great friends and family to get you through anything, nothing is possible.

Through the course of the last year I went through a divorce, and with that I have truly learned what is most important in this world. Money and material things--for starters are not needs. Those things can be taken away at anytime, and you can always make more money, but your true self is just not anything to gamble with.

True friends and family are there for you no matter what, thick and thin. No matter what happens, in a moment’s notice are there for you. It’s amazing. The love, the compassion.

With friends and family was able to rebuild quite quickly—threw myself into fitness and get pretty involved in order to keep my head on straight.

The end of the day, only so much matters. Rest of it is all garbage and can be forgotten. Less is more.

Live, Learn from mistakes and move on. Shit happens. People change. But good friends and family accept you no matter who you are.

Stretch it out!

Don't forget to stretch!

I often times not, see people forgetting this step. But really your not doing yourself any favors, or saving anytime. You can cause lots of injury. Doesn't take that long and it really can feel great and relieve a lot of tension prior and post workout.

Checkout how to use a Foam Roller! Using a foam roller to work out any kinks, stretch out. I personally feel it makes my entire body relax. Give it a try, you'll be addicted I'm sure.
